phrase "inorganic level" is itself an inorganic pattern of values.

Exactly. And, as you say, I don't think considering the level itself
an "inorganic pattern of value" makes sense as the "inorganic level"
doesn't share any of the same values we associate with other
inorganic pattern of values. So what is it then?
