DMB responded to Matt,
My remarks were aimed at Ian. I think your comments about trust are
quite sensible, actually. Ian seemed to be overlooking an important
point. As you put it, "if one has already decided that it is
appropriate, the evasive, weasel-wordy behavior has already destroyed
the trust between you and your main interlocutor, and [by complaining]
you are trying to register to your audience ("for the record," as it
were) why the discussion has ceased, from your point of view, to be
honest and worthy of your attention".
Again, violent agreement with you dmb, I wasn't overlooking that point
or even the one you made earlier:
About cause and effect - offence and accusation - the accusation can
be the offence, etc ... Trust is two way, for whatever reason it
starts to break down, I'm not apportioning blame. Just suggesting it
takes two to fix it.
The only thing I aimed at you, you confirm again - the "water of a
duck's back" attitude - call him a "dick" and move on as you put it.
Doesn't start to address the problem. Even "sorry" is only a start.
Ian
