It's funny you mention the kind of journal you used because that's the kind 
I've started with as well - the black and white marbled composition book.  Lu 
handed it to me and told me to start writing three pages a day but I wasn't 
very faithful about it til I actually started reading.  Now I'm addicted.  I 
see a strong resemblance to a meditative practice in it.

I too, am very glad I started the practice.
