Hi Joe, Yes undefinable can be a concept. It is the same concept used for God. What it means, is that it cannot be reduced to words. As MoQ states, nothing can be reduced to words. In this context, everything is "undefinable". That is what is meant by static quality. If one can see existence this way, one becomes more aware of Quality.
Quality is much more than an idea, since as an idea it becomes part of the conceptual framework (SQ). It is more of a "relationship" with existence. MoQ is continually developing into betterness. As such MoQ is not an idea, but a "tendency". It is important not to confuse the two, or one becomes stuck in SQ. Quality is reinterpreted in every age, as befits the times. One is always describing the same thing. Once one sees everything as undefinable, gone is the stuckness of truth, and in comes Quality Awareness. That is what Pirsig is trying to explain using some tools of metaphysics. Don't get too caught up in definitions once you are ready to take off. But, be careful. We have been told what happened to Pirsig. Quality is not for everybody. Especially those who expect to find it through words.
