Hi Joe, My point was that viewing existence through the primary concept of Value may not be of value for everyone. Christianity, Buddism, Islam, Existentialism, Science, are also not for everybody. MoQ provides a different paradigm with which to view reality. Many are content with the manner in which they view such reality. That is all that I meant.
One cannot derive an awareness of the world as Value by simply reading about it. This reading is an SOM approach to understanding and will not get one to a non-SOM way of getting it. If one uses science as the true means for deriving a relationship with existence, one misses much else that can possibly provide meaning, Quality being one such possibility. Pirsig goes to great lengths to describe Quality through his introduction of MoQ. However, what he provides is not in the words he writes, but in what his intentions are with the words. I am glad that you see Quality as a term for everything, and that it has changed your life. Not everybody will see it this way. Physics is also a metaphysics since it attempts to describe What Is. Unfortunately it only relies on the measurable. This measurable is an SQ that we have created. It is part of the Church of reason. MoQ goes beyond reason and gives one an opportunity to begin to see things differently. There are some instructions, but it is what each person does with those instructions that is important. We learn how to drive through instructions. However, driving is much more than those instructions. They just help one get started.
