Long time no see,...only on first sight, i'v kept on reading in the archives
for most of the time of my absence here. Missed you and Arlo and Dan and
Horse,(marsha) but my mother died and i had a hard time.
dmb says:
Sorry for your loss. I can relate. I lost a sister and friend last year, both
way too young to die. It's not fun.
In any case, I'm glad you're back. You said you would return and now you have.
I noticed that.
Adrie continued:
Eddo is better in his native tongue, David, but not a lot. There is more sense
in his contributions than on first sight, strange however is that he seems to
seek rationality (math) mixed with spirituality (esoteric longing), defining
himself as a mystic and a hyperationalist at the same time. He can always
improve, and it is hopegiving that he is honest about his mental state.
dmb says:
Just about every celebrity has a few psychotic fans but Pirsig, for obvious
reasons, has way more than his fair share. I've seen instances here at
moq-discuss and elsewhere. There was a Pirsig event at Bozeman last December,
for example. It included an open forum wherein audience members could step up
to the microphone and share their Pirsig stories. Except for one or two, every
single person had a story about their own mental illness. Pirsig helped them
through it, each one said. There were lots of tears. It was very moving. I
liked those people. It's only decent and human to have compassion for those who
are engaged in the healing process. But therapy and philosophical discussion
are two very different things - and the internet is not an appropriate (or
effective) place for such healing. Quite the opposite.
Having said that, thanks to Eddo's honesty, it seems that my hunch has been
proven to be true enough. Please notice that I used the term "psychotic" to
characterize Eddo's claims and assertions and not to merely dismiss the point
or merely insult the man. I'm no Doctor and so I'm not qualified or competent
to help any any meaningful way, but I can recognize a certain a certain style
of thought when I see it. I can see the difference between clarity and
fogginess, between reasonableness and grandiosity. Intellectual quality is real
and it matters when discussing philosophy.
Sigh.
It's so frustrating for those of us who are only very neurotic and also
interested in philosophy. I want to talk to people who can make sense, people
capable of thinking clearly and able to say what they mean. Is that too much to
ask? I really don't think so. Sorry, but I'm tired of crazy. It's a very
serious impediment to the whole point and purpose of this forum.
We need a bouncer who's much meaner than Horse. If this were my place....
