There are a number of reasons why I haven't removed Marsha.
First and foremost, she hasn't broken any of the rules of MD - others
have broken more and they're still here.
Misunderstanding Pirsig isn't sufficient reason for removing anyone from
MD - at some point we've all been wrong about some part of the MoQ. In
some ways the MoQ is simple and in other ways it's a lot more complex.
It would be unfair to remove Marsha just because she's wrong about
certain aspects of the MoQ - even those that are fundamental.
How are people that are wrong going to learn about how they're wrong if
they just get thrown out?
I think that Marsha is trying to engage more reasonably and responsibly,
having read her last few posts. I also think she's stuck in a place
where she is not able to see how she's wrong - which probably sounds
incredibly patronising but it's not meant that way.
As I suggested, why not take it one item at a time and demonstrate where
she's misinterpreted Pirsig. The DQ/SQ split might be a good starting
point. If you can get that sorted out then a lot of other things should
fall into place.
Do you remember what I said to you at the conference Dave, about
mysticism? It was you who helped me get that particular problem I was
having straightened out. It took a while too as I remember! So don't
give up on Marsha, I'm sure she'll come right eventually.
