Hi Marsha

Questions have been asked and ignored on all sides and as I alluded to previously there is a lot of historical baggage involved in these discussions so what I'm asking for from EVERYONE on this list is to hit the reset button, forget past problems and start over.

It's really not that hard as long as the desire to discuss reasonably and rationally is there - if it's not then why bother? In fact if there really is no desire to discuss Pirsig's work reasonably and rationally then what's the point of this forum?

Horse,

I do try to respond, but often the complaints make no sense to me, or come from nowhere. How am I suppose to
defend against having my thoughts accused of representing nihilistic relativism or solipsistic subjectivism?
Based on what? Dmb's opinion? And when I ask for evidence, I get something like "Anyone can just check
the archives." Or my request for precise evidence and explanation is transformed onto
"evasion"? While a rhetorical device like stating my "attitude is way too sanctimonious and
it's as pretentious as a monkey in a tux." is humorous, it is an ad hominem attack and besides any
intellectual point. I might be able to address complaints if they did not contain sideshow theatrics. I
have been very diligent in trying to address serious and clear complaints.

I do like you suggestion that discussions be confined to one point at a time,
and those points should address ideas and not people.

Marsha

p.s. Until you state otherwise I will take the 4 posts per day rule to be the
case.

Hi Marsha

I think that much of what you say below is a result of prior unwillingness to
engage in discussions which has raised tempers and, consequently resulted in,
for want of a better phrase, a slanging match!
If this is to change then it will take an effort by all concerned (not just
yourself) to take a step back, take a deep breath and re-engage in a
reasonable, rational and measured way. No insults, sarcasm, parody,
misrepresentation etc.and no prevarication, sidestepping, dismissal or evasion.

There has been far too much acrimony (on both sides) in the past and this needs
to stop.

May I suggest that, if you are now prepared to engage meaningfully with others
on this forum, then both yourself and anyone else involved take one point at a
time and consider only that point until you have at least some idea of where
you agree or disagree. I would also suggest that, given the four posts a day
limit currently in force, that everyone involved in the discussions limit their
responses apprpriately in order that you are all able to answer questions and
criticisms made. I will be quite happy to increase the post limitations, either
individually or overall, if it is required or necessary.

Please remember (all of you) that moq_discuss is the ONLY forum on the internet
that works AND is exclusive to the MoQ and Robert Pirsigs work. So please
exercise restraint and enter into the discussions in a fair and reasonable way.

Horse,

I do not feel obliged to defend myself against projections, misrepresentations,
sarcasm, irony, parody and insults, which does not represent a fair discussion.
For example, I should argue that I am not a postmodernism psychopath? I cannot
relate to dmb's complaints or accusations within any statement I have ever made.
If he would present my exact statements and cite the precise post (subject and
time&date) as context, I will try to explain.

Recently I wrote to dmb:

Wrong about your misrepresentations? For example, you've repeatedly said that
I don't understand the difference between Dynamic Quality and static quality.
I have forever said that the difference is Dynamic Quality is unpatterned,
while static quality is patterned? Am I wrong?

Where was the answer to my question?
