John Carl said to Andre Broersen: "Things beyond" do not compete, they dominate.
Andre responded to John Carl, Feb 24th 2014: Or they do not. And this 'domination' is not characterized by anything? I mean, it just sits there doing nothing but 'dominate'? There is constant competition to dominate John... at all levels. John Carl then said to Andre, Feb 27th 2014: I agree there is competition at all levels. I do not agree there is competition between the levels. Ant Mcwatt comments: John, that doesn't ring true to me, certainly as I understand the MOQ. John Carl continued to Andre, Feb 27th 2014: I certainly don't see, for instance, how inorganic and organic patterns can in any way compete. But rather than trying to support Pirsig by quoting Pirsig, why can't you support Pirsig with real, experiential examples of what you say? Where on earth has any intellectual pattern, all by itself, competed with a pure social pattern? Ant Mcwatt comments: Well John, for example, let's take the (social pattern of) money. I would spend them on loose women, wine and lots of bawdy singing but my third wife (I married all my three wives simultaneously btw - the first is good in bed, the second is good at dealing with the in-laws and the third is especially good at philosophy and asking me difficult questions when I stay out too late at the local Liverpool jazz clubs). Anyway, as you can guess, the third wife is a bit of a moaner - in the complaining sense of the term - rather than the way the first wife is a moaner... (but less of our sex life) - and encourages me to buy philosophy and quantum physics books rather than adding to my extensive Playboy magazine collection and those various books about being "nice" to people such as Dale Carnegie's "How to Make friends and Influence People". Anyway, while I'm here, anyone want to buy my third wife off me? I'll let her go for a £1000 and also throw in an MOQ Textbook PDF and Pirsig PhD PDF for free. Yours generously, Ant. P.S. The third wife is completely blind so never reads my MOQ Discuss posts and though the other two have excellent eyesight, never bother reading anything here. (Very fortunately for my manhood!!!) .
