Hi Craig What I'm getting at, is that as soon as you choose to extend your list of agents beyond one human, you open a can of worms. Solipsism is unasailable but if you widen your range to include others from yourself, you have then to artificially set limits (or not). If you can't justify where those limits are set without using arguments that are solipsist in their nature then you have no basis on which to set those limits.
I'm expectant that Micah has something that I havent anticipated, perhaps others do too. > -----Original Message----- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of > [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: 13 April 2007 04:39 > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: Re: [MD] Dawkins a Materialist (is watching?) > > > [Jos] > > can you outline how you avoid the charge of solipsism, > whilst still having "man" as the only agent > > capable of consciousness. > > Solipsism is the view that one's own consciousness is the > only consciousness there is & oneself "the only agent capable > of consciousness". The view that (hu)man consciousness is > the only consciousness & that humans are the only agents > capable of consciousness, does NOT entail there is only one > such human (i.e., solipsism). > Craig > moq_discuss mailing list > Listinfo, Unsubscribing etc. > http://lists.moqtalk.org/listinfo.cgi/moq_discuss-moqtalk.org > Archives: > http://lists.moqtalk.org/pipermail/moq_discuss-moqtalk.org/ > http://moq.org.uk/pipermail/moq_discuss_archive/ > > This email was received from the INTERNET and scanned by the > Government Secure Intranet Anti-Virus service supplied by > Cable&Wireless in partnership with MessageLabs.
