Hi Ham On my outrageous claims to speak for neuroscientists: ok I'm not currently working as one, but it was my academic training. I can send you copies of my certificates if necessary. My main area was in developmental neurobiology, locating chemical attractant factors that determine nerve growth patterns in emryonic rats. My point is that the colleagues I worked with were not philosophicaly minded, nor was there a great deal of conjecture in literature. This work is led my medical necessity and the primary goals are in working out how systems of matter function. Nobody ever asks why. There is no point therefore in citing the work of neuroscientists as an argument against animist based philosophy as they (we) dont offer a position.
Yes there has been all sorts of quackery associated with animist theories but it doesnt invalidate anything I've said. Anyhow with the NHS thread decending to ever deeper depths of silliness, I dont want to encourage this one to follow suit, so shall we just park it for now? An interesting question springs to mind however where you offered a "definition" of magnetism. Can you define "definition" as discreet from "description"? > -----Original Message----- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Hamilton Priday > Sent: 16 April 2007 07:53 > To: [email protected] > Subject: Re: [MD] Dawkins a Materialist (is watching?) > > > Hi Jos -- > > Concerning the phenomenon of magnetic attraction, you said: > > > > Seeing as how we neuroscientists don't know how these traits arise > > from matter, there is no reason to presume that they are unique to > > the particular matter that is a brain.
