[Craig] Only if you consider money as just inorganic ink and exorganic paper or as a social institution. But what if you consider money as the embodiment of value, as the product of past effort and as future benefit?
[Arlo] Yes, money is the embodiment of social-level value. [Craig] Even so, I don't value these ideas enough to be FORCED to provide subsistance for Greenspan. [Arlo] Ah, that dreaded "force" again. Okay, should someone who doesn't support the military be "forced" to pay for it? Would you support privatizing the military? What about public parks, Craig? Is it immoral for "me" to force "you" to contribute to their being? Should we privatize all public land? Libraries? Immoral for me to force you to contribute to these? Should we disband libraries and open B&Ns? [Craig] That's why I support capital punishment to get rid of or deter those who prevent us from protecting our citizens. [Arlo] Capital punishment offers no greater protection or deterrent than lifetime incarceration. It runs the risk of killing innocent people. And it evidences the prejudices of the larger society. "It's not the "nice" guys who bring about real social change. "Nice" guys look nice because they're conforming. It's the "bad" guys, who only look nice a hundred years later, that are the real Dynamic force in social evolution."
