Quoting Arlo Bensinger <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: > [Platt] > AHHHH yourself. You ignored the fact that our police and military > preserve, not destroy, liberty. Critical thinking strikes again. > > [Arlo] > Not at all, Platt. You said, and I quote, "You do not see that the > power to tax is the power to destroy." I don't see any provisions in > that statement. Indeed, by saying now that "our police and military > preserve, not destroy, liberty", you are in fact saying the opposite, > namely that "the power to tax is the power to preserve liberty". I > agree, Platt, and now you've just proved my point. Thanks.
Obviously you have not accepted Pirsig's moral justification for the police and military. Taxes were not the issue. Preserving society and intellect was. But, alas . . . > Funny how you mock critical thinking, but it makes sense seeing as > all you offer instead is rhetorical distortion and inconsistent > little propagandistic one-liners. I try to simplify complicated issues so you will understand. But, alas . . . > [Platt] > Government brings wonderful things? Right, like concentration camps. > > [Arlo] > Public libraries, free roads and waterways, public lands, museums, > municipal services, social safety net, consumer protection, > environmental protection, land management, yes, I'd say government > brings us wonderful things. I know. You love government and all it's interference in our lives. To hell with liberty. > [Platt] > I don't see those professors being fired for defamation like Imus. Why not? > > [Arlo] > Tenure, for good or bad, protects the liberty of the academy to speak > out against injustice without fear of reprisal. But again, this was > not the first time in American history an angry lynch mob with > torches and pitchforks went after someone. Why does it surprise you > now? It's the American way. We love to scapegoat and > blame "an enemy", whether its immigrants, blacks, the white man, > Jews, Arabs, commies, Nazis, whatever. Welcome to America. Nice try at avoiding the question, "Why not fire the professors for speaking out for injustice?" And I have to laugh" -- you want liberty for the academy but not for the rest of us. ------------------------------------------------- This mail sent through IMP: http://horde.org/imp/ moq_discuss mailing list Listinfo, Unsubscribing etc. http://lists.moqtalk.org/listinfo.cgi/moq_discuss-moqtalk.org Archives: http://lists.moqtalk.org/pipermail/moq_discuss-moqtalk.org/ http://moq.org.uk/pipermail/moq_discuss_archive/
