David, Is "a person" "a pattern", no.
People are patterns upon patterns upon patterns, ... etc, and some of those patterns are more or less static than others, static patterns arise in other more dynamic patterns (resonances / coherences) and not all those patterns have convenient boundaries at the edge of any one person. The bits we call patterns are simply those more long-lived (more static) aspects of the things in which they emerge as patterns. In Pirsig's words ... "although the pattern included the flesh and blood of Chris, that was not all there was to it. The pattern was larger than Chris and myself, and related us in ways that neither of us understood completely and neither of us was in complete control of" Ian On 5/4/07, David M <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Hi Arlo > > What Pirsig says about life and death is interesting. > But this idea of 'pattern' needs unpacking.
