Ian said to Arlo:
If we "killed" the monarchy, we'd a have to invent a presidency. What's the
difference - we still need rules of succession / tenure / authority. etc.
...
dmb says:
Monarchy and democracy are just words and what's the difference anyway
because Bush acts like a King.
Are you freaking kidding me? Wars have been fought over the difference.
Monarchy belongs to pre-Modernity and the MOQ's third level while democracy
is based on Modern intellectual values and belongs to the fourth level.
Further, Bush's authoritarian style, unilateralist foreign policy and
election fraud represent a rather serious crisis of democracy in the U.S..
Of course without the throne and the crown and emphasis on corporate power,
he more a fascist than a king. But those are just words and what's the
difference anyway, right cowboy?
Ian, the defender of social darwinism and monarchy. Jeez. I suppose next
you'll be trying to look on the bright side of the Spanish Inquisition or
the upside of the holocaust.
C'mon brother. Think about what you're saying, will you? You're making it a
little too easy for me to attach the word "drivel" to your name, you know?
How about if you make a game of it? Try to make it impossible for me to make
such accusations. Or maybe you're already playing a game wherein you lure me
into the conversation by intentionally saying ridiculous and outrageous
things. If that's the case you have definately scored - big time.
