the wise man is not learned; the learned man is not
wise....tao te ching
wisdom is borne from the immediate apprehension of the
relative.
the child is the wisest.
hence in nietzsche: the camel is the first age: it
carries the burdens that society imposes on it...and
it incorporates them.
the lion is the second age, it has fully incorporated
the social and now must slay the dragon of the ego.
the ego, fully developed, is now to be transcended.
the ego is the apotheosis of the social. it is the
bridge between the social and intellectual.
the dragon, on whose scales are writ innumerable 'thou
shalts', is slain by the lion, whose ferocity is in
direct proportion to the size of the burden the camel
bears.
and now the lion becomes the child: born again, but
this time born consciously, born of itself: a
god-child.
this is the state of intellectual cleanliness, indeed
next to godliness.
we are camels yearning to be dragon-killers but our
ire is ill-directed, deflected from its rightful
target. instead we turn our violence on each other,
mindless of the foe that, unseen, delivers the blows
that we blame on each other.
we can't see the forest for the trees!
because we are in the forest.
