[Arlo] In other words, if your goal is to aggrandize Christianity, you are on an evil path. If you goal is to uncover the meanings buried in the esoteric language of Christianity towards demonstrating the universality and commonality of all mankind's myths (and hence all "man"), you are on the right path (as a Buddhist might say). I wish I had faith that you were on the latter path, but given your unrelenting idolatry of "Western Culture", and more specifically "American-Christian" culture, I fear its the former. Ron, be careful the flames you fan. The next song you may hear is "Onward Christian Soldiers"...
[Ron] No fears Arlo, I'm all about the universality. I feel the basic foundation of christianity is MOQ based. I'm demonstrating that dualism is itself a hell of sorts one we all suffer from. I like your "orinal sin" as procreation and it may have been the symbolism in hebrew lore but christainity hangs it's hat on the idea of redemption from original sin, perhaps I take the knowledge of good and evil as the fall too literally but perhaps the first christians did too. When I read the Gnostic scriptures I was surprised how much influence platonic thought had on them. In one passage Jesus is quoted retelling the genesis story using Platonic themes of perfect form then describes the hierarchy of the heavens. This gave me cause to reinvestigate the gospels and apon reflection it certainly seems there was an MOQ like movement going on in society at the time. what seems to be the big dividing line is the interpretation of the statement "I am the truth and the way and the light, no man may come unto the father but by me." May be interpreted as the only way to overcome dualism is to see all as one as I do, you will not overcome it in any other way. Over and over he states that he is not it but the one lighting the way to it. "I am the alpha and the omega" it is all the same. "judge not lest ye be judged" and "I judge by the father and the father judges no one" he again states that no one may enter into heaven unless they are "born again" with no preconception to be as open to experience as a small child, that which is dynamic and flexible is good, that which is brittle stiff and static is of no use and is disregarded. the kingdom of heaven is not something to be seen as arriving but as something which is already here but people do not see it, as one calling out for thirst who is waist deep in water. Dualism man, it all smacks of SOM and how a value oriented MOQ type view can change everything. nobody got it. Since he preached to a mainly illiterate group and consequently tried to speak in terms which a farmer may relate to, the message was greatly misinterpreted. Even in the gospels he is quoted as saying that he was frustrated that even his disciples really were not catching on to what he was saying. I think the church of today is exactly the sort of thing he was railing against.. I dunno, but I get the feeling if you got Jesus, Pirsig and Lao tsu in a room together they'd have a lot to talk about. Maybe it's just me wanting to see relationships between a system of thought I was raised in and a system of thought I now hold and the importance of it all fitting together somehow. "to uncover the meanings buried in the esoteric language of Christianity towards demonstrating the universality and commonality of all mankind's myths (and hence all "man")" this I feel is of the utmost importance and one that should be strived for. thanks moq_discuss mailing list Listinfo, Unsubscribing etc. http://lists.moqtalk.org/listinfo.cgi/moq_discuss-moqtalk.org Archives: http://lists.moqtalk.org/pipermail/moq_discuss-moqtalk.org/ http://moq.org.uk/pipermail/moq_discuss_archive/ moq_discuss mailing list Listinfo, Unsubscribing etc. http://lists.moqtalk.org/listinfo.cgi/moq_discuss-moqtalk.org Archives: http://lists.moqtalk.org/pipermail/moq_discuss-moqtalk.org/ http://moq.org.uk/pipermail/moq_discuss_archive/
