[Platt] No. There's a world of difference between engineering a society towards tyranny vs. towards individual freedom. Marxists fit the former category. It's the difference between the Russian revolution and the American revolution.
[Arlo] Maybe you should read Marx, rather that recite talk-radio propaganda. I don't agree with all of Marx's ideas, but I do know his concern was individual liberty. Unlike Strauss, however, Marx overestimates the intelligence and nature of man. Strauss sees people as too weak and stupid and in need of controlling. Marx saw man as wanting, and demanding, a egalitarian world. You can criticize Marx for thinking too highly of man, I suppose, and loft up Strauss to prove how base and selfish we are by nature. But your talk-radio soundbites are hollow to anyone who has actually read and studied Marx, or neo-Marxist literature. moq_discuss mailing list Listinfo, Unsubscribing etc. http://lists.moqtalk.org/listinfo.cgi/moq_discuss-moqtalk.org Archives: http://lists.moqtalk.org/pipermail/moq_discuss-moqtalk.org/ http://moq.org.uk/pipermail/moq_discuss_archive/
