I am no expert as should be obvious, but here's a simple example of 
what's in my mind.

Here's a statement that might be used in an argument discussion of 
who discovered America.  Never mind that it is outdated, it makes my point.

         Every 5th-grader knows Columbus discovered America.

This statement might point to common knowledge of 5-graders, but 
doesn't bring anything pertinent or factual to the argument.  Further 
it may illicit an emotive response by implying that the person being 
addressed doesn't have the intelligence of a 5th-grader.  Bad form, I 
would think.

The radio talking-heads use an abundance of emotive language.
