I think these discussions are very interesting.  They are exposing a very hot 
topic that many think about, but rarely discuss because we don't want to be 
labeled troublemakers or cause trouble/hard feelings, etc. if we discuss them 
in our own schools.   

The thread begins with the questions posed by the students.      Personally, I 
am enjoying the thread.  I'm not teaching now and this is a good time to be 
reflective of the whole nature of teaching.

Their questions are not about reading comprehension.  If the group wants to 
focus on MOT, perhaps the questions should be posed elsewhere.

Sometimes I wonder how some achieve tenure.  Is it fear of being unable to
replace these teachers or is there a sense that if we nurture them, we can
change them?  It does become difficult when tenure is achieved (not
impossible, time consuming) but what of those early years?
