Hi Michelle, I don't have a source for you but what I understand about retention is that it is at these early levels where it is not recommended that children be retained. At the upper grades the effects can be worse. That is what I remember from what I've read in the past. Could be wrong, though so I will try to do a google search and see if I can find anything for you. Elisa

I've personally seen quite a few successes with retaining kinders and 1st graders (age/maturity being main issue). Does anyone know of any age related research on retention? Just wondering.
