I'm jumping in here, but I would like clarification. Are we talking about oral fluency? If so, then I would argue that it is not necessary for comprehension and does not mean that reading is a chore. I have had fifth graders every year that fail fluency tests on the DRA2 but pass comprehension at a level above "benchmark" expectations.
That said, I would like to help a couple of kids perform better in oral fluency because they feel badly about how poorly they do it. So I am looking for a software solution too- I would like one that allows the children to read text into a microphone and listen to themselves. Lori, you mentioned one that I was looking at, "Read Naturally"...but of course money is an issue. Do you find it cost effective and do you have a general idea of cost for this program? Thanks!
