Hello,
In our district, there is much support for literacy coaches. At the
district level, there has been a mandate by our supervisor that literacy
coaches are not to be assigned administrative duties. In order to ptrotect the
integrity of coaches, we are required to send in our daily logs for review.
80% of our time must be workin directly with teachers in some capacity
(planning, teaching, modeling, providing feedback, troubleshooting, or
observing). The rest of our time must be directly related to providing PD.
There is not doubt that we would be performing admin. duties if our district
would not be working so hard to protect our integrity as coaches. As with
anything else, it all depends on the level of support you will be provided.
Also, Jim Knight has some excellent resource books for literacy coaches.
