The first step is to work with administration to determine what your job
entails and what the goals are. That way you can explain to teachers exactly
what you can and can't do for and with them. Some literacy coaches work with
small groups, but both districts I worked in, the literacy coaches were
discouraged from taking specific reading groups. They were encouraged to model
with small groups. That did cause resentment from teachers.
I teach an on line course on literacy coaching, too. If you want to contact me
offline, contact me at [email protected].

Subject: [MOSAIC] new job as a Literacy Coach

Hello,
I've just accepted a new position as a literacy coach. I'm moving from
teaching 4th grade at an independent school to this position. My school has
never had a literacy coach, and I don't know any literacy coaches. I have
some idea, of course, of the job, but would love to know more. Are there any
literacy coaches out there who would tell me about what they do?
-Jewelia
