At my school books are organized by level-which I like. In my classroom, though, have my books organized by genre and/or author. For example, I have tubs with the following labels: Fiction, Non-Fiction, Spooky, Mystery, Classic, Historical Fiction, etc. -and tubs with author labels, like Judy Blume, Beverly Cleary, Gary Paulsen, Roald Dahl, etc. I also have some tubs with series books in them like Harry Potter and The Lightening Thief. My lit sets are on a separate shelf and are kept together. This system works great for my classroom, but for the "book room" we all share, I like having them leveled so that I can find the levels quickly for guided reading.

This room houses all of our leveled text for kindergarten through grade four. I am hoping for some ideas on how to reorganize the space so teachers can access materials quickly. Is your bookroom organized by level? Genre? Author? Theme? Curricula? What system do you use to keep track of books borrowed and returned? Do you have a bibliography? Any advice would be appreciated! Thank you!
