The Red System begins at Level L, however the interest level of the books would work well for middle school struggling students. I use the assessment piece to document growth. I agree with others, there is a good match between LLI and Common Core expectations. A big difference between the Blue System and Red is that with Blue, there are b&w copies of the books for kids to take home for additional practice. The Red System does not offer that.
