I was able to squeeze in 2 hours of birding before the rain this morning.
White-throated Sparrow made up the majority of migrants at Rapids Lake MVNWR.
I also found a Fox Sparrow mixed in with a couple of White-throated near the
visitors center. Migrants this morning were Orange-crowned(8 spread out all in
shrubs with White-throated Sparrow), Ovenbird(3), Chestnut-sided(2),
Yellow-rumped(2), Nashville Warbler, Northern Waterthrush, Common Yellowthroat,
Philadelphia(2), Blue-headed Vireo, Ruby-crowned Kinglet(2), and Swainson's
Thrush.
Yesterday afternoon I went out to Chaska Lake MVNWR at about the worst time of
day possible. For the first half hour I heard and saw nothing except
Chickadees. After a little more waiting a small wave of migrants came my way
including Blue-headed Vireo, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Nashville, Chestnut-sided,
Yellow-rumped, Black-throated Green Warbler, and Ovenbird. Later in the day a
lone Snow Goose heading south flew low over Chaska while calling repeatedly.
