I should have said almost equivalent
Well -- Technically speaking the Power PC chip is equivalent to double
its Pentium III equivalent because its a RISC Chip as opposed to a CISC
chip which a Pentium mostly is. (I been told Pentium is a hibrid)
In other words a G4-500 mhz Power PC Chip is equivalent to a 1 ghz
Pentium III. Provided the software is written to take advantage of RISC
Chip efficiencies and the Altivec engine technologies.
Use a spreadsheet program "Microsoft Excel" which is identical on Mac
and PC same icons used same locations, keyboard commands are slightly
different in that the Mac use an extra key called Command key PC use
Control instead. create the same spreadsheet. The math is computed
faster. They look no different.
Use a Graphics program such as Photoshop, the speed differences are
night and day between Mac and PC's.
Certain Filter actions you can go make you a pot of Coffee and drink
half of it while waiting for the filter to work. On Mac If you blink you
eyes twice you miss watching the changes.
The latest version of Mac you can get up to a 733mhz G4, and a super
Drive that can burn CD's or DVD's
it also uses a nVida Geforce Graphics card with 32mb VRAM. All for
$3499.00 american.
The same identical price I spent a year ago for a G4-500 with a DVD-RAM
Drive and a ATI 128 Rage 16 mb VRAM Card.
