Because people *already own PCs*. Just as you already own a Mac. I've
yet to hear of anyone who has gone out and bought a new PC specifically
to compile Mozilla. My motivation for upgrading my machine sometime in
the future (thus allowing me that needed horsepower) is that games that
I can't currently run then will.

And you may notice I haven't done Windows development. I haven't got
the cash to purchase a copy of VC++, and that's just $99 on a student
discount.

iMacs in the current generation just barely have the horsepower needed
to compile Mozilla. And that's only with a RAM upgrade, in several of
the models. Sure, it might work, but you may be waiting forever and a
day to compile.

Which is irrelevant, because no one is purchasing new hardware for
Mozilla development except the major corporations that can afford it.
Everyone else basically is using the computer that they already have.
