To address some things here: **the main idea** This is talkback for evangelism. Nothing more, nothing less. Not tech support, not a bugzilla replacement, etc. etc. It's talkback like functionality.
*Lack of documentation* Yea, I said it's really experimental. Hence you had to figure out how it works ;-). Suprised? *Problem Types* As Asa said, these are still in the works. Any suggestions should go to him. *Platform* Good catch... I'm simply using navigator.platform... so those are the available options. Still to be fully implemented in the UI. That's what the database stores, that's what we query. Not all possibilities may be implemented in the web query yet. *about:buildconfig* I like the idea, how can we access the info easily? *Edit Information* We may include a notice on the form to ask users to review the URL for any personal informatoin (though something like a username/password is rare these days). I don't think it would be at all wise to allow users to edit fields such as the URL, platform, etc. Simply because it leads to inaccurate data.... the greatest thing this tool can provide is accurate data (since the user is only able to touch so little). This is something I'm rather against... simply because it can only hurt the quality of the data. http://foo.bar/funnypage/ie.html != http://foo.bar. Letting users "clean up" is asking for bad data. We need to be careful of this. *Tracking* This isn't tech support, this is helping Mozilla improve. Hence there's no way a user can get a status update. *Webmaster Contact* The average user of this extension isn't going to contact the webmaster, as pointed out, it may be a layout bug, not a problem with the site itself. The goal of this tool is to agregate data, and allow evangelism a place to start harvesting from... and keep end-users out of bugzilla. *web form* When I first started this, it was just a webform. The reason I spent the time building an entire extension is simply because we need to control user input. For example, about:buildconfig... great idea, but is an average user going copy/paste that in for us? I think not. How about platform? A pull down list is asking for trouble. URL. Copy/paste is what you would hope, but guess how many will just say www.domain.tld, rather than the specific page. if anything, this should be a separate DB. Simply so it doesn't taint our data. This tool, like talkback, can capture pristine data. Absolutely unharmed, mangled, or molested. I think we need to think carefully before giving users options to edit, or ask them questions. Each time we do, we lower our accuracy in search queries. The other thing to keep in mind: the more things a user needs to read/edit/fill out... the greater the chances they will say "not worth my time". Keeping it simple means more data. That's what we want. In my dream world, they just press a button. We need to keep as close to that as possible. _______________________________________________ mozilla-layout mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://mail.mozilla.org/listinfo/mozilla-layout
