The nstmp directory is completely empty. There was no crash. I was
prompted to compact the directory (since I have the option to compact
turned on if it will save 100kb). I clicked yes. Not sure if the
compacting is directly related since I didn't immediately look to my
inbox after compacting to see if things had changed but that seems like
the most likely culprit.

It goes from bad to worse...

I also just noticed that another account has the same problem! I have
six mail accounts that I manage using mozilla mail and two accounts have
been affected. The second account, like the first one, has an empty
inbox and a newly created nstmp directory.

This new development brings up an interesting question: when compacting
folders, does the client try to work on multiple accounts at once or is
it programmed to only work on the current account? Could provide some
insight into what went wrong.
