[MP3 ENCODER] Quick joint stereo questions

In joint stereo mode, the encoder can optionally use intensity stereo and
mid/side stereo across different frequency bands. In the bands where neither
are applied (or for frames where IS and M/SS are disabled) is the audio
encoded in mono or in stereo? If the latter, is a "joint stereo, stereo
only" (mode 1, extension 0) frame effectively equivalent to a stereo (mode
0) frame, or is joint stereo more limited?
