With version 3.67 the default mode of stereo input encoding changed from
using joint stereo at high and stereo at low compression ratios to using stereo
always.
I guess this might be a problem for inexperienced users because using stereo
at high compression will give poor(er) quality. Also users and even programmers
of frontent programs might be caught by surprise.
Perhaps this is reason enough to tweak the balance between quality and
speed in the default settings again?
