Hi,

Another potentially stupid question but just need some confirmation and
possible suggestions. I have a lot of playstation CD's with music I
would like to 'rip'. First question would be is it legal to extract the
audio for domestic use? Second question would be that since the PSX .xa
format is 38.125 kHz, most encoders die painfully because they can't
understand the sampling rate. Would the --resample swith of LAME be able
to work with this? I was given the impression by some other discussions
that it only bumps the bitrate up or down between "supported" levels.
Assuming it can however, would the quality on this be respectable? Also,
are there any simple command-line utilities that can resample these .WAV
files up to 44.1 kHz so that I can encode them normally? I am a Linux
person but can use a windows or Solaris box for this if need be. Also,
if anyone has any recommendations on programs to use that would make
this extraction/conversion process easier it would be appreciated.
Getting the .WAV files is easy. Encoding them has proven to be
impossible for me thus far without using a program like SoundForge
(which I do not own). Help appreciated. =)
