In somewhat layman terms, what do you mean by this? 3.84Z was much
more like it's predecessors than the newer alpha's? You've always
been unhappy with it?

Hmmm, so If I understand correctly: the -V1 setting I was using uptil
3.84a-Z will be something like -V3 now? What's the angle on this?
It's just that I thought lame converged to some point, and now all is
off-scale.
It's just that the 3.84 has come a long way since 3.83. 3.83 gives
too large files, compared to older versions, and I'd like there to be
a 3.84beta with -Z defaulted.
This way you can revise the vbr scale's with the new MT mode in a 3.85
version, and I have an easier time explaining to the users that visit
my site that 3.84 is not 3.84, and 3.83 is not good enough, but 3.84
isn't the same it used to be, ...
It's open source, and you have no obligation to the users, but just
for the sake of clarity, it would be nice to get a version 3.84b
producing files sizelike 3.7,3.80,3.81 and with the Q improvements of
3.83.
Lame already has a big user base, and my guess is that it would make a
much better impression if -V1 in 3.8x was still -V1 in 3.8(x+1).
I understand the meaning of an alpha version, and understand it's
unwise for end-users to be using the newer alpha builds, but since
there hasn't been a beta in some time now...
But anyways, I'll try my best to find some more bugs in the newer
alpha's, so that there will be clarity soon. :) (btw, is that min
bitrate bug already fixed? (-B128 doesn't work)

It would have been nice to release 3.84b first, because now I have to
make some (unnecessary imho) major adjustments to my site, in order to
get this explained to the layman lame user.
