Ken Avidor asks: "If you say you are for social
justice, racial equality and community how can you send
your kids to an elite, non-religious, predominantly
white private school?"

Nikki Carlson responds: "I hope my e-mail is
comprensible even with my tongue in my cheek. I say I
am for social justice, racial equality and community.
And I send my kid (who is black, by the way) to an
elite, predominantly white private school. Would it be
acceptably politically correct if I did this to promote
diversity at that school -- or just to get her an
education in an environment that best suits her needs?
Of course, I'm not running for elected office.

Anyhow, I have 2 other kids - one at a small parochial
school and the other at a large public high school. And
while I think this is a great question, I think it's a
dumb litmus test for a mayoral candidate, as most litmus
tests are."
