I have heretofor resisted the temptation to receive
the list in digest form.
The fact that I have done so now is, I guess, called
decompression.
Anyway I'm trying to get more of a life. Not that
anybody really gives a hoot.
I did go to a marathon session of the Golden Valley
City Council last night.
At a few minutes before 1am the Council decided 3-2 in
favor of a development of seven homes on a narrow
strip of land between Sweeney and Twin Lakes adjacent
to Theodore Wirth Park.
Green Party office seekers in Minneapolis showed up to
speak out against the project.
One comment made late in the night by Councilmember
Bakken struck me. He stated that years ago when this
property became available on the market(presumably he
meant the entire Glenwood Hills hospital site) the
city of Minneapolis or the MPRB could not come up with
the money or desire to acquire the property.
Does anyone know if this is true? When would this have
been?
And most importantly if the scenario CM Bakken spoke
of is true, why didn't we buy the land?
Is this just one more case of a trend throughout the
latter part of the century of shortsightedness on the
part of imagination impaired midgets at the helm of
the jurisdictional units in our city, county, state?
Do we have any real reason to expect this situation to
improve given what we have seen in the recent primary,
recent legislative session and in the gubenatorial
election of 1998?
Is that too cynical?
