I attended the green party endorsement convention yesterday.
I like to keep the process open to as many people, but Mr. Booty wasn't getting
my vote.
I really would have liked to hear more from Candidate's McDonald and Rybak.
There were enough questions to fuel debate and discussion....Affordable housing,
code 4, corporate welfare, mac, I would have asked about coldwater spring and
the stadium and about three more issues....
Sounding very grown up and crusty, can there be too much democracy. yes and no.
I think there are some unanswered questions, taking PAC money from green leaning
organizations, endorsing other parties candidates are two of the biggest.
The point of Nader's race was 5%. The point of this race for mayor and city
council is electing responsive government. Responsive to the people and not the
corporations. In short winning with the best candidate. I wonder if that's so
bad.
I guess Jim Niland's voicing support for Mr. Rybak was a plus for me.
In a way I'm glad we didn't endorse anyone for mayor, it would have made us look
like a cheap date.
And it will be interesting with no one being endorsed.
After yesterday I would support giving someone the oaky dokey from the green
party without endorsing them.
In the future, endorsement will probably be reserved for Green Party Candidates,
in my humblest of opinions.
Brother Shane spoke about the philosophy of the Greens, not just the
environmental pillar they are known for, but also the social justice pillar that
he identifies with. He spoke about the dfl being a party of insiders and if you
were outside it was a bit cold.
Being from ward three I wanted to have input into whom I would support this
fall. There's a bit of trust that is involved.
I am glad we endorsed Brother Shane, as he was the only one of the three I could
really work for enthusiastically.
Valdis Rosentals support of the death penalty in some cases didn't go over big,
actually I could hear the coffin being nailed shut.
more thoughts later.....
