Patrick Peterson: Most of all, I'm not >seeking the endorsment of those who think that no EVER means maybe. >Honestly, I would rather lose the election if winning meant that I would >have to seek the support of that ideology. So yeah, don't vote for me. >Perhaps you could write in Renee LaVoi.
I'm not sure exactly what Michael was talking about here. However, I have observed over the years a number of people giving out mixed messages in this area. Just watch a soap opera -- and you can see the female characters giving mixed messages to male characters about sexuality. There's a famous example of this in the scene in Gone With the Wind where Rhett rapes Scarlett and she wakes up the next morning smiling. As I understand it 80-90 percent of communication is non-verbal. And there are times when non-verbal communication conflicts with the verbal communication. This ofcourse does not excuse "date rape" -- but it is important to talk to young girls about the importance of giving clear messages. There is a lot they see in the media and elsewhere where women are giving very contradictory messages about sexuality. Giving those types of contradictory messages IS a way of getting attention. I think Robert Schmid's comments on the subject -- just posted are right on.
