CN: Personally, I care more about Minneapolitans'
credit ratings than that of Minnesota.

CN: Why do we care more about the govt being broke
then about citizens being broke? Why does the state
have a right to cozy savings accounts full of OUR
money? How would the Guv's proposed taxes
(regressive, imho) effect Minneapolitans?

Well, let's speculate:

First of all, the cigarette tax: Who smokes more -
the affluent or the poor? Answer: the poor. Where
can you find lots of the poor? Answer: Minneapolis.
(I am one of those silly smokers, I'll shamefully
admit.)

Second of all, an increased gas tax: A lot of
Minneapolitans, (myself formerly included) commute out
to the suburbs for work. (Seriously.) It's not all
rich people that have to drive in order to make a
living. An increased gas tax, particularly in
conjunction with the Guv's other proposed taxes, would
not be helpful to the un-rich working folk of
Minneapolis.

Furthermore, the increased service taxes would have
included legal fees. It is already difficult for
low-to-moderate income people to afford a lawyer,
should they need one, and this new tax would make the
situation much worse.

Raising taxes when we're in an economic slump is
absolutely unconscionable. The people of Minneapolis
need to care for their own budgets, not that of
disgustingly inflated bureaucracy. Don't forget that
we're still the 4th highest-taxed state in the nation.

P.S. Since I've now hit two posts for the day, I'm
going to tack another issue onto the end of this one:

If anybody knows which neighborhood organization
encapsulates 29th and Bloomington, will you please
email me offlist with that info? Thanks.
