I plan to go to candidate forums in my district to express my strong view
that I don't want my taxes increased for this purpose.

When coming home from work yesterday, I saw the following at my door:

Kathleen Murdock
A new Commissioner for Hennepin County District 2
Honest, Competent, Hardworking.

We had high hopes for the incumbent Commissioner when he was first eleted
in 1996. But he's changed. He no longer represents the hardworking values
of our district, and he seems to be losing interest in the job.

Stenglein Then
In 1996 he campaigned on Family Values
Stenglein Now
In 2001, the biggest contributors to his failed mayoral campaign were
owners of the Deja Vu adult strip club downtown. *Campaign report on file
with Hennepin County
Kathleen Murdock Says
"I will not accept contributions from owners or adult strip clubs and other
adult businesses."

Stenglein Then
Claimed he opposed the Kondirator metal shredder in North Minneapolis
Stenglein Now
Accepted maximum legal contributions from owners of the Kondirator.
*Campaign report on file with Hennepin County
Kathleen Murdock Says
"I will not accept contributions from the owners of the Kondirator."
Stenglein Then
Opposed big tax subsidies for private business.
Stenglein Now
Became a "switch hitter" on tax subsidies for a new stadium - for it,
against it, for, against, for....
Kathleen Murdock Says
"Hennepin County should not let the desire for a new stadium divert
attention from the county's own responsibilities."

=================================================
EY: Pretty hard hitting advertisement...... However, I think the
statement in her piece about her position could be weasle words -- she did
not state that she would oppose public funding or financing (risking the
taxpayers with bad debt) for the stadium. I agree, Stenglein deserves
criticism on this issue though.

Funny that the Deja Vu contribution didn't become more of an issue during
the mayoral campaign......

"You do not have the right to never be offended. This country is based on
freedom, and that means freedom for everyone - not just you! You may leave
the room, turn the channel, express a different opinion, etc., but the
world is full of idiots, and probably always will be." --Article II of the
Bill of Non-Rights.
