That's the problem I see also. It's good the neighborhood is getting
cleaned up, but why involve Spike Moss? Why not the neighborhood
organization (assuming the neighborhood organization isn't another CNIA)?

Good question. It still bothers me that Spike Moss told the police to back
off and they did, after that raid -- and then reporters got beaten
up. From what I read the law abiding neighbors in Jordan want aggressive
police protection, not Spike Moss and his merry men to do police
work. There was a very good discussion about the situation in Jordan at
the last Property Rights Action Committee meeting. Don Samuels was a
special guest. He was a very interesting person. I encouraged him to
consider running for Joe Biernat's seat (since Joe eventually will resign).

WM: Mark Stenglein is not a good source for information about either
McLaughlin or Felien. This is baloney on its face.

Why? Stenglein is a fellow county commissioner -- and he has the
opportunity to interact with McLaughlin more than say, Wizard Marks.

WM: Meaning what? This is no different from the programs of many another
church. They're pushing Christianity, it should come as no surprise that a
Christian church would push their main reason for being in business. It
doesn't prove squat. Further, what is it about this that could be
offensive? There is an assumption that these folks are teaching some
nefarious stuff, but I'd be willing to bet they're teaching pretty standard
Christian dogma. Park Av. Methodist does the same in their programs. So do
all the other churches. Try are week or two at Catholic Youth League or
Luther League and get their version of the same old same old.

EY: There is something called the separation of church and state. If
Urban Ventures would avoid coming to the public trough, they can preach
whatever they want to. However, since they do regularly come to the public
trough, well that's a problem.

As far as "standard christian dogma" goes, many mainstream christian
denominations are not anti-gay. Park Avenue Methodist Church has been
known for its anti-gay message -- a friend of mine (a Lesbian) use to go to
Park Av -- but finally left the church for good because of the anti-gay
message. Other churches in the area, Calvary Lutheran, Walker Church reach
out and minister to all the residents in the neighborhood. From what I
understand, a jewish parent in Central sent her kids to an Urban Ventures
program, only to find they were asked to participate in Christian Prayer
services -- and this parent was upset about that.

Christian churches, in general, are homophobic. The only ones who have set
out to sell a different version of Christianity are the Metropolitan
Community Churches started by Troy Perry--and they're selling United Church
of Christ dogma with a GLBT twist. Spirit of the Lakes, an offshoot of
MCC's All God's Children Church is peddling something quasi New Age AND
United Church of Christ.

================================
Nonsense. If all christian churches except for MCC and Spirit of the Lakes
were homophobic, how come so many churches advertise in Lavender about
being "open and affirming" congregations? Why did the Reformation Lutheran
Church of St Paul ordain Anita Hill? I'm a member of Calvary Lutheran
Church, and I wouldn't be a member of a homophobic congregation.

The virulently homophobic churches -- like Westboro Baptist Church (Fred
Phelps, the "godhatesfags" guy) are seen as fringe by most mainstream
denominations.

Anyway, I'm sure Peter McLaughlin will be happy to know that Wizard Marks
will serve as his chief spokesperson on the Minneapolis Issues list.
