I am not so sure about the quality of the time Peter McLaughlin spends interacting with Wizard, but fortunately for Peter he has a whole lot of other support in the neighborhood. Of course Wizard is correct in her estimate of the silliness of Peter McLaughlin worrying about Eddie Felien and his newspaper. I have to congratulate Eddie on his attempt to use a political race to boost circulation of his periodical. Has anyone bothered to look at past races for Hennepin County. Eddie makes left-wing progressive liberal Peter look like Barry Goldwater. This does not leave much of a margin being to the left of left. While the fringe is crazy and fun there is just not much room left for one, if you are to the "left" of Peter McLaughlin. Given the extreme Gulf between Wizard and my political stances on issues, if we both support Peter McLaughlin it certainly does not leave much room for Eddie, and certainly no room to the left of us for a republican such as Eva. So I look forward to Eddie throwing a great "Victory" party after the November loss and hope his periodical flourishes.
As far as Wizard's advice about Mark Stenglin goes, Wizard should look at her own comment about Eva's comments about Peter. This seems nothing more than Wizard trashing a more conservative politician. My "Quality" time observing of Mark Stenglin is that he is one of the most level headed County Commissioners. He certainly understands business and cuts through the "Pig poop" of Non-Profit crap better than most. Though I disagree with his election run stance on NRP, I think he is one of the few on the Empowerment Zone Board with any true knowledge of what "Empowerment" even means (after the meaningless rhetorical puffery has settled to the floor). Also having been around both men working on particular issues, (American Indian Housing, Carriage Houses, etc--), I would say that Peter and Mark do get along and DO have common issues. so I imagine Peter shares even more "quality" time talking to Mark Stenglin than to Wizard. As to homophobic Urban Ventures, how do you fault a Church Organization for preaching their beliefs. You may not like or agree with them, but you can't fault them for preaching it. I am not so sure they even believe it themselves but they need to keep up the facade of being a "Christian" organization and not just another "Non-Profit". What people can and should insist on is that they do not get public funding if they preach such hatred. Just as we would scream if Fundamentalist Islamic groups preaching suppression of women were funded. Freedom of religion ends when you accept one darn penny of taxpayer dollars. "Dubya" not withstanding no tax dollars, of any kind, should go to any hate preaching religious group whether it is fundamentalist Islam or Satan worshipping fundamentalist Christians. Though I support Peter, I am deeply troubled by his support of funding for such a group, if he in fact does support it. People in both Phillips and Central Neighborhoods commonly refer to some group as "Urban Vultures". Does anyone know who this is? Does anyone know what the origin of this term is, and the reason for such a name? What activity, or lack there of, caused the creation of such a title?
