Once again, Victoria Heller seeks to discredit those she disagrees with by playing fast and loose with numbers in order to inflame.
A visit to the Project 504 web site (www.project504.org) will tell you just what it is that Project 504 does. "We formed Project 504 in April 1999 to address the increasingly deteriorating housing conditions for low-income families. As we did then, Project 504 continues to work to prevent the loss of affordable rental housing in Minneapolis. In pursuing this mission, Project 504's primary and continuing goal is to prevent the condemnation and boarding of apartment buildings that provide housing for low-income families, particularly immigrant and low-income families who are often vulnerable to landlords and fear reprisal if they seek to improve their living conditions. We use Minnesota's Tenant Remedies Act to organize tenants and to give tenants and their families a collective voice in seeking positive change in their living environments." In other words, they are an advocacy organization. They're not going to do a whole lot of disbursement of "specific assistance to individuals" - just like if you checked out the American Lung Association of MN, you'd find little disbursement of "specific assistance to individuals" relative to the revenue they collect - in this case a whopping $0 out of revenues of $5.4 million. One could also use the more generally-accepted review of non-profits, which is administration expenses relative to revenue. In this case, ALA MN's were $503,000 out of $5.4 million. Project 504's administration expenses were $1,345 out of $205,000. If anything, I think the whopping salary of $36,000 that Greg Luce made in 2000 barely covers the crap he has to put up with from landlords that don't like the fact that he's providing a voice for their tenants. Nice try, Vicky. Mark Snyder Windom Park TEMPORARY REMINDER: 1. Send all posts in plain-text format. 2.
