I was at the demonstration. The MPD numbers are flat out wrong. 700 people + fit in the main room at First Avenue. I have been to sold out concerts there and am well aware of what that number in a crowd looked like. I marched from Lagoon all the way to Loring. Are you telling me that a crowd that stopped traffic on Hennepin for well over an hour, filling three lanes of traffic for 8-10 blocks represents only 700? The reports from local news sources ranged from 7000-10,000 people, which I think is more accurate.

As for a cry opposition to this war... Saddam Hussein had committed a transgression and invasion against the people of Kuwait and his own people (Kurds and non-Kurds alike) in the Gulf War. We do not have that precedent now. And yes, there was anti-war movement involvement during the Gulf War. Perhaps not as loud, since there had been a definitive crime committed. The crime now is the continuing starvation, suffering and death of Iraqi civilians. Bombing them is not going to help, and it's not going to hurt Hussein.

As one of the best signs at the rally stated yesterday... It's hard to feel liberated when you're dead.
