Marcy Open School in Southeast Minneapolis is considering changing its name to honor the late Senator Paul Wellstone.
[JM] I'm a fan of the late Senator Wellstone for a number or reasons not the least of which that prior to becoming a Senator Professor Wellstone and family were wonderful neighbors for my grandmother in Northfield. I would be in favor of naming a school in his honr and an Open School seems appropriate.
I'm curious, however, as to the origin of the current name of Marcy Open School. Perhaps its a non-issue since the neighborhood will continue to carry that name, but is there a historian online that can answer this?
