Currently bicycles can be licensed in Minnesota. The purpose of the licensing
is actually three fold. First, to make it easier to recover you bike if it is stolen.
Secondly, and this really applys to children. If a police officer comes upon a child
who is injured on a bicycle,they can then run the bike license number and identify the
child, his/her address, etc. Lastly, the licensing fees do go in part to pay for the
states very large and impressive bike trail system.
