Anne's reply As I'm sure everyone knows, 'cop' stands for constable on patrol and I too was brought up thinking it was disrespectful. Then I became one and heard all the other things we are called, none of which, except PIG, can repeated on this site, and found COP the most respectful, casual, even friendly term the police officers are called now-a-days.
