I wrote. <<That's in a contract that school board directors hope only runs nine months!>>
Then Denny wrote... In my intro journalism course, admittedly taken before the invention of moveable type, we were cautioned to avoid looking into the hearts or minds (or hopes) of subjects. Prof. Charnley said report what they say, not what they think or hope. (Didn't Woody Allen admit to flunking a theology course final because he was caught looking into the soul of another student?) Then I wrote again... Ouch! My point was based on this part of Allie Shah's story: "School board members have said they hope to have a permanent superintendent in place by the start of the 2004-05 school year." That's where the nine month "hope" came from. All that said, I appreciate Dennis's explanation (as always, on the list). I hadn't considered that the goal was to keep Jennings from leaving early. My assumption - and I'm willing to admit being wrong on this - was that school board directors weren't worried he would stay. Next question: why $46,000? Seems like the incentive for not leaving early could have been thousands less than what is, after all, a year's salary for most Minneapolitans. David Brauer Kingfield REMINDERS: 1.
