He also faces the reality that he likely won't find a new job in a matter of a few weeks. The School Board clearly values Mr. Jennings, they offered him the Superintendent position. They clearly want him to stay for a yet to be determined period of time (the contract apparently says it can be extended up to 3 years). Indefinite employment periods often include compensation or bonuses for staying until the end. I think that part of the contract is entirely reasonable. It is my understanding that many City of Minneapolis department managers have contracts that provide for severance benefits when the employees leave city government.
